Exec named sr. VP communications, media relations
TV press relations vet Mark J. Kern is returning to Hallmark Channel, where he will be senior veep of communications and media relations both for the cabler and its sister network, Hallmark Movie Channel.
“I believed in the potential of Hallmark Channel at its launch, and I am convinced that it can rise to even greater success,” Kern told Daily Variety. “The channel has strong leadership, a solid programming strategy and, importantly to me, is open to new ideas from all areas.”
Recently, Kern had been working as an independent consultant for such networks as Ovation and Reelz as well as companies like Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video Digital Media and Broadway Video Entertainment. Also on Kern’s resume are a stint as corporate PR veep at Fox and management roles at NBC in Burbank.
“As a founding executive of Hallmark Channel, he made significant contributions to our early growth and success,” said William J. Abbott, prexy and CEO of Crown Media, which owns and operates Hallmark. “His understanding of the evolving media landscape, his broad-based media relationships and his insights and savvy about the television business make him a major asset for us.”
