Valerie Schaer has been tapped exec VP of creative development for Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Prods.
Responsibilities will include looking for new programming opportunities on the syndie, network, cable and digital side.
Schaer comes from David Letterman’s Worldwide Pants shingle, where she served as supervising producer on several projects, including “Coming Home: Military Families Cope With Change.”
“My areas of expertise is identifying talent and ideas, and pairing them together,” Schaer told Daily Variety. “I want to broaden the business and get shows on the air.”
Harpo Prods. has “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Dr. Phil” and “Rachael Ray” on during daytime, and is set to launch “The Dr. Oz Show” on Sept. 14. Harpo Films pacted with HBO in December to develop and produce scripted series, minis and docs.
