Exec named exec VP of Emerging Networks
Discovery Communications has promoted Deborah Adler Myers to a newly created position as Science Channel general manager and exec VP of Discovery Emerging Networks.
Promotion comes as Myers has attracted a number of top celebs to Science’s deepening programming slate.
Development, scheduling, research and marketing for Science will all come under Myers’ purview, while she continues overseeing programming and development for Investigation Discovery, Military Channel and HD Theater.
In the past year, Myers has launched 40 new series and specials for Science. She’s inked development and programming deals with Morgan Freeman, Whoopi Goldberg and Will Smith, among others, earning the exec notice inside and outside of the company.
“Debbie is an exceptional leader who has created excitement for her brands through creative dealmaking, rapid and smart development and unbridled enthusiasm for the networks,” said Discovery Emerging Networks president and general manager Clark Bunting. “In just one year, she has created great momentum, especially for Science Channel and Investigation Discovery.”
Myers joined Discovery Communications in 2005 and moved to Discovery Emerging Networks last year. She was previously senior programming veep for TLC, where she oversaw the creation of more than 500 hours of original content. She is also a veteran of E!, Oxygen and her own production company, Aha! Entertainment.
