The return of the “Seinfeld” gang was good news for HBO, as Sunday’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” drew 1.6 million viewers, the most for any episode of the show in five years.
Add in the 10 p.m. encore, and the total rises to 2.6 million who were hungry to see the venerable NBC gang back together. In Larry David’s contrived scheme, he brings back Jerry Seinfeld, Michael Richards, Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in order to give his fictional wife, Cheryl (Cheryl Hines), a part in the reunion.
The episode drew in viewers who watched the pay cabler’s other original series. The sixth-season finale of “Entourage” drew 2.5 million — up 21% from last season’s finale — and freshman skein “Bored to Death” scored 1.1 million, the most of any episode.
Showtime also fared well, as the second episodes of “Dexter” and “Californication” drew 1.3 million and 877,000, respectively. Both were only slightly down from record premieres a week ago.
