U.K. broadcaster takes second season
The BBC has acquired exclusive U.K. rights to the second season of “Damages,” the U.S. legal skein starring Glenn Close.
Show, bought from Sony Pictures Television Intl., will bow on flagship web BBC1 in February, most likely in a latenight slot.
The pubcaster’s appetite for U.S. shows is small, but upscale shows like “Damages” and “Mad Men” have proved cost-effective investments for the BBC, winning praise from critics and a cult following from auds.
“Damages” won several awards last year, including a Golden Globe and an Emmy for Close’s perf as capricious lawyer Patty Hewes.
The 13-part second season, which begins on FX on Wednesday, reunites Close with “Big Chill” co-star William Hurt, who plays a new client of the New York legal eagle.
