'Contractor,' 'Farsi' among network trimmings
CBS and ABC — the two nets boasting the heftiest number of pilots this season — have begun trimming their rosters.
The Eye confirmed Saturday it was pushing the 20th Century Fox TV drama “Confessions of a Contractor.”
Shawn Ryan, Richard Murphy and Jeff Okin are behind “Confessions,” based on Murphy’s novel about a blue-collar Los Angeles contractor who handles renovations for wealthy clients.
The “Confessions” pickup was cast-contingent — and CBS decided not to go forward after a lead actor could not be found.
News comes as ABC has pushed “Funny in Farsi,” which was director- and showrunner-contingent; and “Planet Lucy,” which was cast-contingent.
“Farsi,” exec produced by Jeffrey Hodes and Nastaran Dibai, is based on the book by Firoozeh Dumas about her experience growing up as an Iranian immigrant in Southern California. “Lucy,” from Gabby Allen, centers on a stay-at-home mother of three who starts taking time for herself.
ABC Studios is behind “Farsi,” while Sony Pictures TV is the studio on “Lucy.”
Studio execs had been bracing late last week for pilot trims, noting that both nets had perhaps ordered more pilots than they needed.
