Network with pilot order to drama
A&E has given a pilot order to a Fox Television Studios drama to star Radha Mitchell as a femme LAPD detective struggling with bipolar disorder.
Drama dubbed “The Quickening” was penned by Jennifer Salt, an exec producer on FX’s “Nip/Tuck.” Salt wrote the project some time ago, and it recently caught the attention of Tana Nugent Jamieson, A&E’s senior veep of scripted drama.
Mitchell’s character faces the dilemma of having to choose between her meds and her profession. She’s a brilliant detective — so long as she doesn’t take the medicine that regulates her bipolar disorder.
Mitchell is now onscreen opposite Bruce Willis in the sci-fi pic “Surrogates.”
In addition to her work on “Nip/Tuck,” Salt recently co-wrote the feature adaptation of “Eat, Pray, Love” with “Nip/Tuck” creator-exec producer Ryan Murphy.
In other pilot news, Fox and 20th Century Fox TV have enlisted Jake Kasdan to helm the pilot for “Worthy,” about an Arizona politician who’s blackmailed by a mob boss after the politician is involved in a hit-and-run accident. Davey Holmes (“In Treatment”) wrote the pilot and exec produces with Gavin Polone.
