Universal Music Group and BigChampagne, an online music metrics company, have entered into a long-term music monitoring and information deal.
As part of the company-wide deal, BigChampagne, a subscription-based company, will provide Uni with an analysis of songs and listening patterns from millions of users of social networks, including Twitter and Facebook, and online music services from iTunes to Amazon.
U prexy and CEO Jim Urie said the partnership will lead to “more opportunities for our artists and labels.”
“As we continue to expand our services, it’s important to utilize the best research tools available especially when it comes to the proliferation of music discovery and consumption on the web,” Urie added.
Launched in 2000, BigChampagne holds limited partnerships with Warner Music Group, Sony and BMI.
Founder and CEO Eric Garland said he hopes to expand those deals in the future and credits the U partnership as a platform to do so.
“What we’re trying to do is to create a standard point of action,” said Garland. “It’s a very difficult time for all of us, especially media industries; and these businesses need to become more efficient.”
