Additional theaters are joining in the broadcast of the Michael Jackson memorial, with Carmike Cinemas adding theaters in 28 markets mostly in the Midwest and South. The hi-def broadcast will be free to patrons. Gary Green, Director of Alternate Content of Carmike Cinemas said, “This free live broadcast is a gift from Carmike Cinemas to all of Michael Jackson’s fans as a way to present the present the memorial service in the best digital presentation available.”Cinedigm Digital Cinema has also arranged to broadcast the event live and free of charge in about 88 theaters, with capacity for approximately 17,000 people. Cinedigm’s network of digital cinemas is used mainly for sporting events and concerts. The company is also considering adding an encore showing of the service.
