MTV nabs TV rights to ‘This Is It’

Network pacts for Michael Jackson docu

MTV Networks has nabbed domestic TV rights to the Michael Jackson docu “This Is It” from Sony Pictures Television.

Deal will make the pic available to MTV and its sibling nets in 2011 for a six-year window. It allows for the title to run on multiple MTV Networks channels, including VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia as well as Viacom-owned BET and its spinoff channel Centric.

“This Is It,” a chronicle of Jackson’s rehearsals for a series of London concerts that were to have begun just weeks before his death in June, has raked in $222.6 million in worldwide B.O. since it bowed globally on Oct. 28.
