The Recording Academy will attempt to stoke interest in the Grammy Awards for the second year in a row with an hourlong primetime special announcing top nominees to air Dec. 2 on CBS.
“The Grammy Nominations Concert Live” will air live (taped delayed in West Coast markets) from 9-10 p.m. from Club Nokia in downtown L.A. It’s an effort by CBS to milk as much programming as possible out of its affiliation with the Grammys, and it’s a break from the tradition of major kudos announcing noms in the early ayem to make the network morning news shows. However, last year’s spesh drew a paltry 7 million viewers.
Performers on this year’s noms special will include Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell and Sugarland. LL Cool J will repeat as the show’s host. Ken Ehrlich and John Cossette are serving as exec producers for AEG Ehrlich Ventures and John Cossette Productions, respectively.
CBS will broadcast the 52nd annual Grammy Awards from Staples Center on Jan. 31.
