Canadian crooner nabs No. 1 for 2nd week
Canadian singer Michael Buble’s “Crazy Love” held onto its spot at the top of the U.S. album charts this week.
Chop Shop/Atlantic’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” soundtrack made its entrance at No. 2, shifting 115,000 units in just three days on sale, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures for the week ending Oct. 18.
Six-figure sales tallies for the top two titles were bright spots in a week that saw mild business for recent releases and a pair of meager entries in lower reaches of the top 10.
Warner Bros.’ Buble set sold 203,000 in its first full week on sale. It bowed last week at No. 1 after three days in stores; release was moved up to coincide with Buble’s appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s TV show.
Likewise, the release of the indie-rock-heavy “New Moon” soundtrack was pushed up four days after music leaked onto the Web. Pic opens Nov. 20.
Rapper Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint 3” (Roc Nation) climbed two slots to No. 3, despite a slim 15% dip, moving 55,000 units. Another former No. 1 entry, Barbra Streisand’s “Love Is the Answer” (Columbia), held at No. 4; package of ballads and standards dropped 34%, selling 49,000.
Teen diva Miley Cyrus’ EP “Time of Our Lives” (Hollywood) continued to show legs. Though the Walmart exclusive slipped 15%, it gained three positions, rising to No. 5 on sales of 40,000.
The Black Eyed Peas’ tireless “E.N.D.” (Interscope) rebounded 17 slots to No. 6. Powered by bargain pricing at iTunes and music placement in a DirecTV spot, album gained 56% and sold 40,000.
Country-pop sweetheart Taylor Swift’s nearly year-old “Fearless” (Big Machine) made a 10-position bounce up to No. 7, scanning 33,000 for a 7% gain. Title just hit the 4 million mark.
Oklahoma’s flamboyant Flaming Lips marched in at No. 8 with “Embryonic.” New Warner Bros. set tallied 32,000 in its debut stanza.
R&B vocalist Mario returned to the top 10 with “D.N.A.” (J Records). Singer’s fourth studio album bowed at No. 9 with a 32,000-unit week.
Mariah Carey’s “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” (Island) logs a downward course to No. 10, tracking just 31,000, following a 43% drop, in its third chart week.
New releases by country luminary Tim McGraw and pop-soul vocalist Joss Stone are poised for top-10 entries on next week’s chart.
