Fabolous' 'Way' debuts at number one
Fabolous might have topped Billboard’s current albums chart with his fifth studio disc, “Loso’s Way,” but the East Coast rapper couldn’t match the strength of Michael Jackson’s resilient “Number Ones,” which remained the bestselling release for the second straight week in the frame ended Sunday, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Jackson’s hit collection was the only record to sell more than 100,000 units, with a tally of 114,284, while Fabolous sold 98,613 discs.
Jackson held three of the top five spots in comprehensive album sales, and six of the top 20 positions. Interestingly, “The Essential Michael Jackson” fell only 9% in sales from the week prior, while Demi Lovato’s “Here We Go Again,” the previous week’s No. 1 current seller, dropped 64%. The dozen albums by Jackson and/or the Jackson 5 in the top 200 comprehensive album chart sold almost 350,000 units, down from last week’s 447,000 total. Disc sales for the singer since his June 25 death are fast approaching the 4 million mark.
Daughtry’s “Leave This Town,” Maxwell’s “Blacksummers’night,” compilation disc “Now 31” and the Black Eyed Peas’ “E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)” round out the top current sellers. Taylor Swift’s “Fearless,” on the charts for 38 weeks, remains strong at No. 9, with 3.6 million albums sold to date. The country music siren’s “You Belong With Me” topped Landmark Digital Service’s top 10 most performed songs on the radio for the second week running.
Lady Gaga remains one of pop’s hottest newcomers, with her “Fame” LP tracking for 40 weeks and selling approximately 1.3 million units so far. The dance diva recently tied with Beyonce for the most MTV Music Video Awards noms with apiece with nine each.
The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” also repeated atop Shazam’s Tag Chart as the most identified tune for subscribers who use the service to identify songs they like.
