Plasberg, Jauch exchange words on 'Das Quiz'
Bitter talkshow hosts for 200, please …
ARD quizzer “2008 — Das Quiz” became a sort of Teuton “Family Feud” last week as rival yakkers Frank Plasberg and Guenther Jauch hurled verbal barbs at one another.
The two are said to have bad blood dating back two years to when Jauch, now commercial web RTL’s star host, was offered — but turned down — an ARD job that Plasberg coveted (and didn’t even get after Jauch declined).
Tensions on the Plasberg-hosted “Das Quiz” mounted quickly when Jauch, appearing as a contestant, pointed out that ARD had made a small mistake with one question.
Plasberg replied, “Ladies and gentlemen, would you agree with me that we should start counting points for a ‘Smart Ass of the Evening’ trophy?
“I’d say Guenther Jauch just collected five points.”
Plasberg then mocked ads Jauch does for a beer company’s environmental campaign.
“Herr Jauch is selling beer to save the rain forest,” said Plasberg. “But when you drink the whole crate, you’ll burp so much that you destroy twice as much of the rain forest as you’d save, right?”
Plasberg got his own digs in, quipping, “You’ve been voted as German TV’s most popular, influential, most competent and most serious TV host? I have two questions: Why wasn’t I allowed to vote and, secondly, how do you pull that off considering you make a clown out of yourself?”
Jauch’s reply: “Maybe because I’ve had failures in my life, too — and learned from them. You should fail often yourself. You’re definitely on the right track for that tonight.”
Angry retorts for 300, anyone?
