Zambello leaves ‘Wives’

Director exits musical

Helmer Francesca Zambello has withdrawn from the tuner version of “The First Wives Club” in a move that was necessitated by the director’s prior commitments, according to reps for the show.

Zambello (“The Little Mermaid”), who directed the world preem of “First Wives” at San Diego’s Old Globe over the summer, is attached to an upcoming production of musical “Rebecca,” and also regularly directs opera.

“First Wives” received a mixed bag of reviews in San Diego but proved popular with auds. Producers Paul Lambert and Jonas Nielson have said Broadway remains their ultimate goal, although no exact timeline has been set.
