Theater trio make ‘Promises’

Goldwyn, Finneran, Ashmanskas join musical revival

Tony Goldwyn, Katie Finneran and Brooks Ashmanskas have joined the cast of the Rialto revival of “Promises, Promises,” opening April 25 at the Broadway Theater.

Previously announced leads Sean Hayes and Kristen Chenoweth star in director-choreographer Rob Ashford’s production of the 1968 tuner. Adapted from the Billy Wilder film, “The Apartment,” the show has a book by Neil Simon and songs by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

Actor-director Goldwyn last appeared on Broadway in a 1995 staging of Phillip Barry’s “Holiday.” Finneran won a Tony for her role in “Noises Off,” while Ashmanskas scored a Tony nom for “Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me.”

Ashmanskas has two shows scheduled for the spring; he goes directly into “Promises” from Roundabout Theater Company’s limited-run Noel Coward revival, “Present Laughter,” which opens Jan. 21 and wraps March 21.

“Promises” begins previews less than a week later, on March 27. Producers are Broadway Across America, Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Candy Spelling, Pat Addiss and the Weinstein Co.
