Actress to star in reading of unperformed play

Sigourney Weaver is set to star in a reading of an unperformed William Inge play, “Off the Main Road,” at the Flea Theater in Gotham.

The event, open to donors of the Off Off Broadway company, also will include Walter Bobbie, Jay O. Sanders, Rocco Sisto and Frances Sternhagen in the cast. Plot follows a woman and her daughter who go into hiding from the woman’s abusive husband.

The unseen play was previously reworked for a 1964 TV incarnation called “Out on the Outskirts of Town,” starring Anne Bancroft and Jack Warden.

Helmed by Flea a.d. Jim Simpson, “Off the Main Road” gets a one-night-only showcase at the Flea tonight.
