‘Shrek’ star segues to play

James heads to Broadway in 'Time'

Brian d’Arcy James will exit “Shrek the Musical” for a role in “Time Stands Still,” the Donald Margulies play bowing on Broadway in January.

James, currently playing the title role in “Shrek,” will join Laura Linney and Alicia Silverstone in the Manhattan Theater Club production of “Time,” about a photographer (Linney) and a journalist (James) forced to return to New York after covering wars abroad.

No final date has been confirmed for James’ departure from “Shrek,” although it seems likely to occur some time in November, when the thesp, nommed for a Tony for his perf in “Shrek,” will have been with the Rialto production for a year.

Daniel Sullivan helms “Time Stands Still,” which begins previews Jan. 5 ahead of a Jan. 28 opening at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theater.
