Sam Waterston has ‘Seen Us’

Actor to star in Fugard play at the Long Wharf

Sam Waterston will topline the world preem of Athol Fugard’s “Have You Seen Us?,” which will bow at Long Wharf Theater in New Haven, Conn., Nov. 24-Dec. 20 on the theater’s main stage. A.d. Gordon Edelstein will helm the play, which is set in a Southern California strip-mall diner on Christmas Eve.

It will be the first U.S.-set work from the South African playwright, who is now living in San Diego.

Waterston will play Henry Parsons, a South African history professor “forced by a chance encounter to deal with the demons in his heart.” Waterston previously played at Long Wharf in Tom Stoppard’s “Travesties” in 2005.

In January, Fugard’s “Coming Home” had its world preem at the theater, also helmed by Edelstein.
