Road grosses for Week 15 (Aug. 31-Sept. 6)

'Wicked' in Seattle is the big earner

The road grosses slipped 28.6% in Week 15 (Aug. 31-Sept. 6), pulling the total gross for the nine-show slate down to $8,584,813.

Very little of the drop had to do with actual declines in sales: “Mamma Mia” and “The Phantom of the Opera” were on layoff, and “The Color Purple” did not have a final figure to report because of pending refunds for two perfs canceled due to inclement weather. “The Lion King” left its house record-breaking engagement in Calgary, Canada, for a smaller Anchorage, Alaska, venue.

The Seattle production of “Wicked” was the week’s biggest earner with $1,533,259 at the Paramount. And it broke the house record in Nashville, Tenn.
