Rachel York to star in ‘Dalmatians’

Thesp to play Cruella De Vil in national tour

Rachel York (“City of Angels,” “Victor/Victoria”) will play Cruella De Vil in the upcoming national tour of “The 101 Dalmatians Musical.”

Tuner, based on the 1956 novel by Dodie Smith (but not the animated adaptation from Disney), has music by Dennis DeYoung (a founding member of Styx) and book by BT McNicholl, with DeYoung and McNicholl collaborating on lyrics. Jerry Zaks helms the show, about canine spouses who set out to rescue their pups from the evil Cruella.

Produced by Magic Arts & Entertainment/Tix Prods., Troika General Management and Luis Alvarez, “101 Dalmatians” bows at Minneapolis’ Orpheum Theater on Oct. 13.
