Plays from Gurney, Tolins on 2010-11 schedule

New plays by Jonathan Tolins and A.R. Gurney and a new a cappella tuner make up the 2010-11 slate at Off Broadway’s Primary Stages.

Season kicks off with “Secrets of the Trade,” by Tolins about a Long Island kid hoping his idol, a legit legend, can help him launch a Broadway career. Matt Shakman helms the show, which bowed in L.A. in 2008 and will have its Gotham run July 27-Sept. 4.

Next up is musical “In Transit,” about a group of Gothamites; Kristen Anderson-Lopez, James-Allen Ford, Russ Kaplan and Sara Wordsworth provide book, music and lyrics for the show, in which the songs are all-vocal. Tuner will have its world preem Sept. 21-Oct. 30 at Primary Stages in a production directed by Joe Calarco.

Third and final offering of the season is the latest by Gurney, “Black Tie,” about a young bridegroom, his father and an impending marriage ceremony that threatens to become messy. Production, directed by Mark Lamos, runs Jan. 25-March 5, 2011.
