‘Motherhood’ finds berth at Bay Street

Play gets brief work-in-progress run

“Motherhood Out Loud,” a play by a slew of scribes including Theresa Rebeck, Beth Henley and Lisa Loomer, is getting a brief work-in-progress run this summer at Long Island’s Bay Street Theater.

Conceived and produced by Susan R. Rose and Joan Stein, the motherhood-themed show, which has a cast of four, is aiming for future life both regionally and in New York.

Vignettes come from 15 writers, including playwrights Rebeck, Henley, Loomer, Leslie Ayvazian and Annie Weisman. Also contributing are TV scribes including Marco Pennette (“Ugly Betty”) and Christine Zander and Mark Nutter (“3rd Rock From the Sun”).

Lisa Peterson (“Shipwrecked!”) will directs the play; no cast has been announced.

“Motherhood” has been seen in readings on both coasts, featuring thesps that have included Camryn Manheim, Linda Emond, Harriet Harris and Sandra Oh.

As part of Bay Street’s 2009 season, show will play the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, N.Y., July 30-Aug. 1. Rose and Stein produce with Renee Landegger and Judith Resnick.
