Coin to support New Play Production Program

Center Theater Group in L.A. has been awarded $1 million from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support the expansion of the org’s New Play Production Program.

Grant will go toward commissioning, developing and programming non-text-based work, while also emphasizing the support of shows from L.A.-based creatives.

Coin will contribute to funding three large-scale commissions for new non-text-based shows, as well as to the completion of projects already begun.

News comes on the heels of an announcement earlier this week that the Mellon Foundation has doled out $1.1 million to another development initiative for new stage work, the American Voices New Play Institute at D.C.’s Arena Stage.
