New Haven’s Long Wharf Theater will host the world preem of Athol Fugard’s first play set in the U.S., “Have You Seen Us?”
Long Wharf a.d. Gordon Edelstein, who helmed the debut of Fugard’s “Coming Home” in January at the theater, will stage the new work as well.
Latest from the South African scribe is set in a coffee shop in a Southern California shopping mall. The 78-year-old playwright now lives in San Diego.
No casting has been announced, although recent New York readings of the script featured Sam Waterston.
Also set for the Long Wharf’s 2009-10 season is Darcy Picoult’s play “Lil’s 90th,” starring Lois Smith (“The Trip to Bountiful”) and David Margulies. Jo Bonney helms the play, about an Internet scam that takes advantage of the elderly.
Also set for the six-show season, split between the two stages, is A.R. Gurney’s comedy “Sylvia,” staged by associate a.d. Eric Ting (“The Old Man and the Sea” at the Long Wharf).
Three other titles are expected to be announced by the end of the month.
