Jane Krakowski and Christian Borle will topline a reading of new tuner “Mrs. Sharp” at Playwrights Horizons later this month.
Krakowski (“30 Rock”) will play the title role in the musical, based on the 1991 Pamela Smart scandal involving teacher-student sex and murder. Michael Greif (“Next to Normal,” “Rent”) helms.
With a book by Kirsten Guenther and music and lyrics by Ryan Scott Oliver, “Mrs. Sharp” centers on a wannabe self-help guru (Krakowski) whose job teaching high school leads to alarming entanglements. Borle (“Legally Blonde,” “Spamalot”) plays Mrs. Sharp’s husband.
Playwrights Horizons presents the reading in association with the Richard Rodgers Foundation. In 2008, “Mrs. Sharp” picked up the Richard Rodgers Award for Staged Readings.
At Playwrights Horizons, two invitation-only readings are set for July 30-31.
