After weeks of uncertainty regarding his participation, Cheyenne Jackson has inked to star in the Broadway revival of “Finian’s Rainbow,” starting previews Oct. 8 for an Oct. 29 opening at the St. James Theater.
Premiered on the Rialto in 1947, the show about Irish fortune hunters in the mythical Southern U.S. state of Missitucky has a score by Burton Lane, lyrics by E.Y. Harburg and book by Harburg and Fred Saidy.
Warren Carlyle directs and choreographs the revival, which transfers from a brief Encores! run in March, in which Jackson also played Woody. Jim Norton, Kate Baldwin, Chuck Cooper and Christopher Fitzgerald also star.
Jackson’s previous Broadway credits include “Xanadu,” “All Shook Up,” “Aida” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”
Other Broadway transfers drawn from the Encores! series of concert stagings include “Wonderful Town”; “Gypsy,” with Patti LuPone; and the long-running “Chicago” revival, now in its 13th year.
