Gotham theater org Harlem Stage has received $100,000 in grants to be used for marketing and program support and for a free concert.
Funds break down into two $50,000 chunks. One half comes from the National Endowment for the Arts’ Recovery Act, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act — legislation created to assist arts orgs that need to retain critical staff and artists during the recession. The NEA has funded Harlem Stage for more than 15 years.
The other $50,000 comes from the Target local grant fund and is earmarked for the org’s Aug. 15 concert. The free outdoor perf, “The Bachata Roja Legends,” will feature Dominican musicians, including singer-guitarist Puerto Plata.
