Goodman scores with O’Neill fest

'Desire Under the Elms' hits 95% attendance

The Goodman Theater in Chicago has pegged attendance for its recent Eugene O’Neill fest at a robust 90% — with attendance for Robert Falls’ production of “Desire Under the Elms,” soon to transfer to Broadway, hitting 95%.

The multi-company O’Neill fest, titled “A Global Exploration: Eugene O’Neill in the 21st Century,” ran Jan. 7-March 8. According to the Goodman, attendance came close to 50,000.

Lineup of the fest included offerings from Gotham’s Wooster Group, the Netherlands’ Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Brazil’s Companhia Triptal and local Chi troupes the Hypocrites and the Neo-Futurists.

“Elms” begins perfs on the Rialto April 14.
