Friedman in tune with ‘Lincoln’

'Hello Out There' set for Jan. 15

Disney conductor, arranger and music supervisor David Friedman steps out as composer of new musical “Lincoln in Love,” one of a trio of tuners getting staged readings at next month’s Goodspeed Festival of New Artists in East Haddam, Conn.

To be presented Jan. 17, Friedman’s show has book and lyrics by Peter Kellogg (“Anna Karenina”). It centers on the courtship of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln.

Also featured is “Hello Out There,” with book and lyrics by Eric Price and music by Frank Terry, playing Jan. 15. “ReWrite,” with book, lyrics and music by Joe Iconis, plays Jan. 16. “Hello Out there” is about three teens in 1995 who use their Internet knowledge to work the stock market, while “ReWrite” connects three stories “in surprising and dangerous ways.”

Among other seminars scheduled for the fifth annual fest is the Noel Coward Foundation Symposium: “Creating ‘Next to Normal. The Jan. 16 talk features Tony-winning composer-arranger Tom Kitt and producer David Stone.
