New opera runs Sept. 26 - Oct.4

Opera star Lauren Flanigan will topline the world preem of the new opera by Stephen Schwartz (“Wicked”), “Seance on a Wet Afternoon,” in a production helmed by the composer’s son, Scott Schwartz (“Golda’s Balcony”).

Show, produced by Opera Santa Barbara and exec produced by Michael Jackowitz, is based on the 1961 novel and its 1964 screen adaptation. Flanigan, who appeared in a City Opera showcase of the developing opera in May, will play a psychic who becomes entangled in a kidnapping.

Also in the cast are Kim Josephson, Hila Plitman, John Kimberling and Craig Hart, among others.

“Seance” runs Sept. 26-Oct. 4 at the Grenada Theater in Santa Barbara.
