Doheny to stage a ‘Godfrey’ reading

Event to take place March 6 in New York

East of Doheny, the production company behind the Broadway run of “Grey Gardens,” will present a reading March 6 in New York of “My Man Godfrey,” a new screwball musical comedy based on the 1936 Gregory La Cava film with William Powell and Carole Lombard.

Music and lyrics for the show are by “Urinetown” composer Mark Hollmann, with book by Rupert Holmes (“Curtains,” “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”). Matthew August directs. Cast for the invitation-only industry event includes Jason Danieley, Diana Di Marzio, Jan Maxwell, Brad Oscar and Jill Paice.

The Depression-era tale revolves around a well-heeled New York family of eccentrics, who hire a homeless man as their butler, resulting in eye-opening upheavals.
