Company notches up 20,000 theatrical licensees

Disney Theatrical Prods. has hit a milestone, notching up 20,000 theatrical licensees.

With its partner org Music Theater Intl., which licenses the Mouse’s stage shows to schools and theaters around the globe, licensed productions of Disney-branded stage shows have now totaled approximately 100,000 performances.

The company licenses three types of production: full-scale musicals, including school and Broadway editions of “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aida”; hourlong abridgements of popular shows designed for middle schools; and half-hour abridgements for elementary schools.

“High School Musical” and “Beauty and the Beast” are the most popular full-length properties, while “Beauty” and “Aladdin” top the charts for the mid-range, and animal-related shows, especially “101 Dalmatians Kids” score highest with the younger crowd.

Disney is also working on a full-length version of “Aladdin” for licensing.
