Wait, who’s it all about?
Dame Edna aims to return to Broadway in a show called “Dame Edna: It’s All About Me” — in a springtime slot that looks likely to see it running concurrently with the previously announced Michael Feinstein concert show tentatively titled “All About Me.”
The Edna outing plans to kick off a limited engagement in early March at a Shubert theater, with the Feinstein show having earlier announced a February start date.
Jerry Zaks (“A Bronx Tale,” “Guys and Dolls”) helms “Dame Edna,” the latest Rialto run for the glamorous Aussie housewife.
The alter ego of Barry Humphries, Dame Edna Everage has previously appeared on Broadway in “Dame Edna: The Royal Tour” in 1999 and “Dame Edna: Back with a Vengeance” in 2004. “The Royal Tour” scored a special Tony for live theatrical presentation.
Content for the new production hasn’t been revealed, although it seems likely to resemble prior comedic evenings of song and self-worship.
List of producers also hasn’t yet been nailed down. A rep for the show said the team would consist largely of producers who have previously produced Edna offerings, a group that has included Leonard Soloway, Chase Mishkin, Steven M. Levy, Jonathan Reinis and Creative Battery.
Before spring, it seems likely that one of the two “All About Me” shows pointed toward Broadway will come up with a new title to avoid confusion.
