Playwright Craig Lucas is one of two recipients of the new Hermitage Artist Retreat Greenfield Prize.
Award comes with a $30,000 commission, a six-week residency at the Hermitage on Manasota Key, Florida, and partnership with a professional org that could present the preem of the new work.
Sarasota’s Asolo Repertory Theater, which hosted the pre-Broadway tryout of “A Tale of Two Cities,” is skedded to bow the Lucas play in 2010.
Joseph V. Melillo, exec producer at Brooklyn Academy of Music, chaired the Hermitage’s selection committee, with the drama recipient picked by a team that included Michael Bigelow Dixon of Minneapolis’ Playwrights’ Center, Public Theater a.d Oskar Eustis, Signature Theater a.d. James Houghton, and Asolo Rep a.d. Michael Donald Edwards.
Composer Eve Beglarian picked up the Greenfield prize for music.
