Warren Carlyle has been tapped to provide the choreography and musical staging for the upcoming tuner “Pure Country,” aiming to hit Broadway in the 2010-11 season.
Carlyle, the helmer-choreographer of the current Rialto revival of “Finian’s Rainbow,” joins a creative team led by director and co-book writer Peter Masterson (“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”). Country-infused score is by composer Steve Dorff and lyricist John Bettis, with Rex McGee co-writing the book based on his screenplay for the 1992 pic on which the tuner is based.
Musician Joe Nichols is attached to play Dusty, a successful country music recording artist who decides to chuck his career at the height of his fame. Country singer Lorrie Morgan portrays Dusty’s manager.
Randall L. Wreghitt, Chris Presley and Ellen Rusconi produce.
