‘Cargo Cult’ to launch in Oregon

Mike Daisey's solo show readies U.S. tour

Monologist Mike Daisey’s new solo show, “The Last Cargo Cult,” will begin its North American tour at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, Ore., before further stops at Gotham’s Public Theater (Dec. 3-13), D.C.’s Woolly Mammoth Theater (Jan. 11-Feb. 7) and Chicago’s Victory Gardens (April 26-May 9).

Daisey’s performance, which comments on the financial crisis, will focus on “the religions of two islands I have visited,” according to the performer: “the remote island of Tanna, where America is worshipped in massive celebrations beneath an erupting volcano,” and “the island of Manhattan, whose financial engines are the religion of our age.”
