Buzzetti jumps to WME

Former Gersh agent to top legit department

Gersh agent John Buzzetti has jumped to WME, where he’ll head the theater department.

Buzzetti adds a jolt of younger talent to the agency’s legit roster, bringing with him a list of clients including creatives from recent Tony-winning tuner “Next to Normal” (composer Tom Kitt, lyricist Brian Yorkey), “In the Heights” (creator-songwriter-actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, helmer Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler) and “Avenue Q” (composer-lyricist Robert Lopez, playwright Jeff Whitty, director Jason Moore), among others.

Buzzetti is the first official head of legit for WME. The William Morris theater topper, Peter Franklin, was let go around the time of the merger with Endeavor, which did not have a legit department.

Buzzetti, whose tenure at WME begins immediately, has been at Gersh since 1998 and was upped to partner in 2006.

Composers Stephen Flaherty and Jeanine Tesori, lyricist Lynn Ahrens, and scribes David Lindsay-Abaire, Adam Rapp and Stephen Adly Guirgis also are among the clients who will follow Buzzetti to his new agency.

Current WME legit lineup includes playwrights Edward Albee, Athol Fugard and Adam Bock, directors David Cromer, Des McAnuff and Jerry Zaks and writer-director Arthur Laurents, among others.
