Will Ferrell comedy premieres in New York
You’d think Will Ferrell would have no trepidation tackling Broadway with his extended roast of our 43rd president, “You’re Welcome America. A Final Night With George W Bush.”
It’s in Gotham. It happens in front of an audience. He’s impersonating a political figure. Isn’t it just like “Saturday Night Live”?
“There are definitely similarities,” he said at the production’s opening night party Thursday. “And yet, I don’t have cue cards.”
He’s not the only Ferrell making his Rialto debut in “You’re Welcome America.” Brother Patrick shares the stage with Will’s personification of former President Bush, playing a stone-faced Secret Service man who boogies every time Dubya leaves the stage.
Some of those moves are choreographed, but some are left for him to improvise.
“It’s sorta my own hip swing and gyrations,” he said. “And some of the breaking and popping is my own stuff.”
