$5 mil to support musical theater programming

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Kennedy Center has received a $5 million donation from arts patron Adrienne Arsht to support musical theater programming at the D.C. venue. The 10-year gift will help the center produce and present a wide variety of tuners, per KenCen president Michael Kaiser.

Kaiser said Arsht’s 30-year relationship with the center has included numerous acts of generosity, among them chairing the National Symphony Orchestra ball and underwriting the center’s Arts in Crisis initiative.

Arsht was a long-time D.C. resident before relocating to Miami, where she has donated $30 million to Miami’s Performing Arts Center along with other activities. She will reportedly be spending more time in D.C. to “enjoy the many fruits of her philanthropy,” according to Kaiser.
