“Rock of Ages,” the ’80s jukebox musical that opened last season on Broadway, will launch a sit-down production in Toronto next year, opening in May at the city’s Royal Alexandra Theater.Mirvish Prods. will present the show in association with the Rialto team. It’s anticipated most of the cast will be Canadian, although no decision has been made as to whether a “Canadian Idol” veteran will be recruited to play the lead role of Drew, as “American Idol” alum Constantine Maroulis does on Broadway. Tony-nominated director Kristin Hanggi is expected to reprise helming duties on the new version. Jukebox musicals “Mamma Mia!” and “We Will Rock You” have proved popular in Toronto, running five years and two years, respectively.
