Women In Film announces fund recipients

Grants go to eight documentarians

The Women in Film Foundation has named eight recipients — all documentarians — of its Film Finishing Fund this year.

Netflix donated the grants, which have totaled more than $2 million in cash and in-kind services to 170 films since 1985. Women in Film also announced that Netflix has officially renewed its support of the program and will provide cash grants for next year’s Film Finishing Fund program.

The program drew 110 film submissions, with 15 selected for the final round of consideration. One of the winning films, Kiran Deol’s “Woman Rebel,” was shortlisted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for this year’s docu short subject category.

Other winners include Catherine Grand for “What’s on Your Plate”; Weimin Zhang, “The House of Spirit”; Marilyn Ness, “Bad Blood: A Cautionary Tale”; Lilly Rivlin, “Grace Paley: Collected Shorts”; Rebecca Richman Cohen, “War Don Don”; Tisha Blood, “Torey’s Distraction”; and Aviva Kempner, “Yoo Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg.”
