Warner Bros. to take ‘Beginner’s Greek’

Donald De Line to produce Collins adaptation

Warner Bros. has decided to try “Beginner’s Greek,” snapping up James Collins’ novel for Donald De Line to produce.

Studio has hired “500 Days of Summer” scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber to pen the adaptation.

“Beginner’s Greek,” published last year, centers on an investment banker who meets his soul mate on a plane, loses her phone number and discovers later that his best friend has married the woman.

Chuck Weinstock will produce and De Line exec VP Andrew Haas will exec produce.

Warner-based De Line’s prepping “The Green Lantern” for the studio, with Ryan Reynolds starring and shooting set to start in February in Australia. He most recently produced “I Love You, Man” and “Observe and Report.” Weinstock produced “Fired Up!” and “Fracture.”

Warners signed Neustadter and Weber late last week in a preemptive deal. The scribes’ stock has been rising given strong reviews and good early box office for Fox Searchlight’s “500 Days,” starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The writers have also set up “Underage” at Montecito and an adaptation of “The Spectacular Now” at Searchlight, with “500 Days” director Marc Webb attached to helm. Neustadter and Weber also have a blind script deal with Imagine TV.

They’re repped by CAA and Kaplan/Perrone.
