Gruber, Waud, Shepherd launch new venture
Writer-director J. Mackey Gruber (“The Butterfly Effect”), former New Line exec George Waud and entrepreneur D. Todd Shepherd have formed production banner Miscellaneous Entertainment to produce pics in the $10 million-$20 million budget range.
First of 10 features slated for producing is psychological thriller “Blindsighted” in partnership with Magnet Media Group. Gruber and longtime collaborator Eric Bress will direct from their own script, with production expected to start late this year.
Miscellaneous also is developing the comedy “Who’s Your Daddy,” penned by Gruber and tyro scribe David M. Matalon. The banner’s looking to attach a director.
In addition, Miscellaneous has acquired feature rights to Vernon Frolick’s “Fire Into Ice: Charles Fipke and the Great Diamond Hunt,” centering on an underdog diamond prospector.
Waud’s an exec producer on “Eleven Minutes,” Hollywood Gang’s adaptation of the Paulo Coelho novel, and is producing a remake of Japanese horror pic “Infection” with Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Taka Ichise.
Shepherd is the chairman of Utah-based Studeo Interactive, a direct marketing specialist.
