NEW YORK — After surviving a torrential downpour outside Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema, guests at the July 29 “Taking Woodstock” preem, including Meryl Streep, Claire Danes and Julian Schnabel headed over to the Bowery Hotel to congratulate the cast over ice cream, beer and mini bottles of champagne with straws.
“I managed to bring the rain but not the mud,” pic’s helmer Ang Lee joked.
While revelers were decked out in the “hippie chic” attire that the invite called for, Lee and cast stuck to classic suits.
Demetri Martin has pic’s writer-producer James Schamus‘ teenage daughter to thank for landing him his first leading film role.
“She told me to check out this guy on YouTube,” Schamus said. “I thought he was really cool so I invited him to come to the office just to meet him, which I never do. It was totally awkward but then about half a year later we were getting ready to do ‘Woodstock’ and I thought, ‘Oh my god, Demetri would be absolutely perfect.'”
Event was sponsored by Quintessentially and Gilt Groupe.
