BERLIN — Former Disney senior VP Wolfgang Braun is taking over as CEO at StudioCanal’s Leipzig-based distrib Kinowelt.
Braun replaces Jan-Pelgrom de Haas, who stepped down last month. He will report to StudioCanal topper Olivier Courson and serve on the French entertainment group’s international executive committee.
From 1992 to 2008, Braun was general manager of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Germany, heading the theatrical and home entertainment divisions and overseeing distribution and marketing of films from Disney’s subsidiaries.
In charge of production at Buena Vista Intl. Film Prod. Germany, Braun also oversaw films including Florian Henkel von Donnersmarck’s Oscar-winning “The Lives of Others” and “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” starring Til Schweiger.
Before Disney, Braun established and managed Paramount and Universal’s joint exhib venture, the United Cinemas Intl. multiplex chain, in 1987.
After leaving Disney last year he set up his own shingle, MoreMovies Entertainment.
