Honorees include Brooks, De Niro, Springsteen

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Producer/director Mel Brooks, actor Robert De Niro, rock star Bruce Springsteen, musician Dave Brubeck and opera singer Grace Bumbry and have been selected to receive this year’s Kennedy Center Honors.

The five entertainers will be celebrated Dec. 6 at a black tie gala and variety show at the center to be aired Dec. 29 on CBS. The affair, which is expected to draw President Barack Obama and wife Michelle, along with numerous other political and showbiz celebs, will again be produced by George Stevens Jr. and son Michael.

The gala will be preceded by a White House reception, and a dinner the previous evening at the State Department hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen A. Schwarzman praised the artistry of this year’s recipients and their contribution to cultural life of the U.S. and the world.

Now in their 32nd year, the honors are a socko fundraiser for the center and a longstanding must-attend for D.C.’s in crowd.
