ShortFest serves honor to ‘Dinner’

27 awards given to 315 films

Hungarian short “The Dinner” nabbed top nod Sunday at the Palm Springs Intl. Short Fest.

Directed by Karchi Perlmann, pic tells the story of a pig farmer whose life is sent into turmoil after a domestic accident.

Nathanael Carton’s “Jonathan’s Home” was awarded the grand jury prize.

ShortFest — the largest of its kind in North America — handed out 27 awards to 315 films screened from more than 2,200 submissions.

Helmer Katie Wolfe was honored with the Future Filmmaker Award for her short “This Is Her,” while top live- action student prizes went to Lauren Wolkstein (“Cigarette Candy”) and Lubomir Mihailo Kocka (“The Lunch Box”). Chris Perry (“The Incident at Tower 37”) won top honors in the student animated category.

Fest ran June 23 through Sunday.
