Move to help 'restore faith in the film industry'

HONG KONG — Salon Films, one of the oldest names in the Hong Kong biz, has announced a strategic alliance with a number of players in Asia to help locals “rise above the global downturn and restore faith in the film industry.”

Partners include Salon’s existing collaborators — Hengdian World Studios in China, database Access Asia (Cayman), Yoshimoto Kogyo in Japan and Mediacorp Raintree in Singapore.

New names in the alliance include China Film Foundation, the Media Development Authority in Singapore, Enlight Pictures, National Arts Entertainment and Pearl River Film.

The announcement was made at Hong Kong’s Filmart on Tuesday, the second day of the four-day mart.

There is a strong Chinese element in the agreement, reflecting the growing importance of the Chinese market to Hong Kong.

Pearl River Film is an established media group in southern China, while Enlight Pictures is one of the top three privately owned media companies in China.

Salon said the alliance would jointly promote development and growth in the region, creating stronger cultural connections between East and West.
