Actor given Male Star of Tomorrow award

Chris Pine — who plays young Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” — will receive the Male Star of Tomorrow award at upcoming exhib confab ShoWest.

Award is intended to recognize and showcase actors and actresses in the earlier parts of their careers.

Paramount will release “Star Trek” on May 8, looking to revive the franchise after a long hiatus. Spyglass is Par’s partner on the film.

Pine was last in theaters with indie film “Bottle Shock,” about the California wine industry in the 1970s. Other film credits include “Smokin’ Aces” and “Just My Luck.” Upcoming releases include Paramount Vantage’s thriller “Carrier.”

Pine will be honored at ShoWest’s closing banquet April 2 in Las Vegas. During the confab at Paris/Bally’s, studios will preview their summer releases for theater owners. Confab begins March 30.
